Dolmabahce Palace

Royal residence of Ottoman dynasty after 1800 A.D. An eclectic but spectacular palace, mix of Baroque and Art Nouveau has cost 5 million Ottoman gold coins-equivalent to 35 tons of gold. 14 tons of gold in the form of gold leaf were used to gild the ceilings of the 45,000 square meters mono block palace. Last Sultan abandoned the palace in 1923 when republic came to act. Mustafa Kemal also exhaled his last breath there. Today Dolmabahce serves as museum.
